Can you post a photo of a leaf or two from this plant. That might help in getting an ID.

I'd say that's a cross between zucchini and acorn squash. It should be good for summer squash.

Sure looks a lot like spaghetti or butternut, but not exactly like either. I had butternuts last year that looked exactly like that except for the "ribs."

I do think it likely is a cross, and I'd go with George's answer because he is the most knowledgeable squash person I know, as well as the most knowledgeable seed saver in the state. I am curious about the appearance of the foliage. It is interesting to see what you get from odd crosses.

In my experience acorn squash taste quite good, when eaten as a summer squash. Only a few summer squash are passable when eaten fully mature. So, be sure to try it while green and tender.

I ate an immature acorn squash a few years ago, it was so good DH didn't even get to taste it. I ate it because the SVBs killed the plant, haven't attempted acorns since. But I have seeds for a bush acorn I may grow under cover.

George, I agree! Even though summer squash can be allowed to mature to the hard, winter-squash like stage, I don't really like them that way. I suppose that's the reason some squash traditionally are grown for use as summer (immature) squash and others as winter (mature) squash. Clearly people who preceded us by generations figured out which ones are best at whichever stage.

Amy! I cannot believe you didn't share that squash with your DH! Lol. Those are odd words coming from me considering I eat SunGolds endlessly in the garden as 'garden Gatorade' for weeks before there's enough left over at the end of the day to carry up to the house to share with other people. Tim has no idea that the SunGolds mature in 55-60 days because none of them make it to the house that first few weeks. To the gardener go the spoils....

He was working, Dawn (2nd shift) and it was just SO tasty.

We ate a couple in a sausage squash casserole so I can't say much for flavor right now. I just pulled another one off today, I think we'll eat that one raw.
