I planted my garlics last fall in the first week of November, which is turning out to be way too late, definitely too late for turbans and Asiatics. My Xians did so very little that they all reverted to rounds and I have already pulled them out. With no hard stems I will simply braid them once the stems wilt. The Japanese is about half of what it was last year at this time after a very slow start.

Even Siberian and VietNamese Red were slow to come on, although the Siberian has come on pretty well lately, almost but not quite equaling Music.

Best of all is the Music once again. Most of them are showing scapes and are bigger and farther along than any of my others although still short of last year by a bit, and there are a few scapes starting to show on the VietNamese Reds on much smaller plants.

All in all my bulbs will all be smaller this year, and the Xian will all be saved to replant as rounds.

Next year I go back to planting in early to mid October. I do not think I got enough autumn growth with the later planting.

OTOH I also dug my tulips and I keep getting amazed at how they multiply! Virtually every plant bloomed and then most divided into at least three daughter bulbs. They are laid up on the drying racks to cure. I should have plenty to plant back next year again. I may try some of the bigger later May bloomers next year in addition to the Red Appeldoorns (triumphs) I have been using for the past few years.
