Looking for a certain kitchen....

Hey all you with great memories!

I'm looking for a kitchen that was renovated and revealed probably two years ago. It was a U shape, with a peninsula; and dark, maybe black counters. I seem to remember part of the story being it was her grandparents house. The owner's username had some numbers in it; a four or six maybe. Can anyone remember it? Thanks!

Ah, that one fits the description too, doesn't it! It's always a favorite.

No, I'm thinking of a different one. Thanks though:)

Clueless- yes! Thank you! (a little off on the name:))

May I ask you, Nancy, why were you looking for this kitchen?

    Eam-

We recently moved to a new (to us) house with a hideous u-shaped kitchen that's original to the house: 70s vintage, and not in a good way! Naturally I'm planning for a remodel;) (may be a few years yet, but I'm getting a jump on it!) I'm thinking of all the similar kitchens on gardenweb that I can remember. Scrappys is actually more similar to my layout because it has an extra doorway, but I remember being impressed with the other kitchen when it was revealed and I wanted to check it out again.

If anyone can think of anymore u shaped kitchens I can ogle, post away.

    Thanks for the help!

Sure. Scrappy' kitchen speaks very well to mine as well. The size is almost the same the layout eerily similar to the one I've chosen, and the organizational touches are pretty clever. I resisted cutting into the dining room as well.

I wonder whether the peninsula, the unsung hero of so many kitchens, will ever be as popular as the island? Maybe when our cultural obsession with food and enormous kitchens finally passes.

I've been wondering the same thing about islands vs. peninsulas. My kitchen is g shaped now and I'll most likely renovate to a u. But I still find myself thinking sometimes "am I sure an island wouldn't work?"! I'm not sure where that attraction comes from because I've never had a kitchen with an island.

My mom had a U-shaped kitchen and removed the peninsula to add an island. I like it! The family room is on the other side of the breakfast area--it makes it easier to move between the breakfast area and family room and kitchen, that was previously blocked by the peninsula. However her kitchen is wider than the ones above...I think it depends on if you have the space and how the traffic flows in your house.

My house is from the 70's though we installed new cabinets in the 90's. My kitchen is 12.5 x 12.5 and closed - but three doorways. I have an L shaped kitchen with a small island. You sometimes can fit an island if you go from U shaped to L shaped, but it often means a loss of overall cabinet area. I almost did another wall of cabinets, but it was too much $$$ and in retrospect I am glad I am not surrounded by cabinets. I do have wood cabinets though. I am not sure if I would mind being surrounded by white cabinets.

We removed the wall between our kitchen and dining room to turn it into a U shaped peninsula in 2012 in our cape cod. Our basement opens into our kitchen (the door on the left) and sticks into it, so there wasn't room for an island. We hadn't put down the new floor yet, so it was 100% complete. You can see the little reason for the delay if you look closely. :D Here's the album of pics I have if you're interested. We did a complete low budget DIY renovation. Kitchen Reno Album

I had a U shaped kitchen in my previous house. It functioned pretty well when I was cooking by myself, but anytime we had people over, it was a complete pain. No matter that we had room in the dining and family room--everyone always congregated around the peninsula. It became a bottleneck area into the kitchen. I didn't have enough room for an island, but I think sometimes they are the best solution to allowing traffic flow from more than one direction.
