steiconi--I use Ponderosa pine because long-needle pines don't grow naturally around here, but people have planted Ponderosa in their landscaping, so when I see one I ring doorbells and ask if I can have some needles. People think I'm kind of nuts, I think! They are between 10 and 12 inches long. I've used 8 inch, but they're not as fun to work with.

Just gorgeous! I had trouble weaving a basket once with thick ribbons of wood, I doubt I'd have the talent for something like this.
