Why not a dining rm.? That would be easy. You don't sit down to eat? Don't have dinner parties? If not I guess you don't need dining room. Do you play pool. Or media room. Could you use extra TV room. Decide use, then we can help you. One of first thing paint. I would replace tile with wood if in budget? Windows covers go. Ugly lite in ceiling goes. But everything hangs on use.

Also what is size of rm. does tile go to another room? Can you see this rm from other rm if so which?

My kitchen has a large space for dining and that's where we have our meals. There is no cable hook up in this room either. Yes the curtains are ugly but they were given to us and I put them up just to keep prying eyes out. I don't like the light either, it had a chandelier type when we moved in but we moved that to the dining room seeing how that space originally had a fan over the table.

I would love to do hardwood but this tile covers the entirety of my first floor. I absolutely hate it but we live in Texas and its considered an upgrade.

this room can be used for all sorts of things. Pool table would be good but check for space clearance. Media would be another option. I would not put just a bar space in there. Change flooring for sure, paint (if you want) and window treatments.

Can you knock out a wall to connect it to the kitchen area? You could open up the first floor that way and have a large kitchen, eat-in-area and family area. You could paint all one color in order to visually connect it and then add furniture to this space as the family area. That furniture could be anywhere from sofa and media/tv center to pool table. Keep in mind that whatever you do there, it seems like it will be immediately visible from the front door and foyer.

by the looks of the room not sure a pool table is a good idea. When you place a pool table in center of room you need 5' of space on all sides, this means a 4'x8' pool table will need at least 14'x18' of space

Wow such a response. Thanks everyone! I don't have the space for a pool table and if we did, I don't think we would go that route. Neither of us play. I can't knock out any other walls so what's in the pic is what I have to work with. It's the first room you see when you enter my home so I want it to be welcoming. Our tv room is upstairs in the loft and both kids have hook ups in their rooms plus our room so we don't want to spend the money to run another cable into this room as well. I like the library idea with like a sitting area I guess? I am a Scentsy consultant and would like to put some kind of storage in there for my stock that's currently shoved into a tiny closet. But what colors would go with the rest of the downstairs?

in that case you should go with the office/library route, have a nice place to put you stock and i think the pink, green and white would look good for this room like in the picture above. Its not an expensive route eaither, get some shelving from ikea and the rest is up to you

After several more months of debating and a recent Pinterest obsession, I have decided to make it a craft room. It is definitely still a work in progress but I think it's going to turn out pretty decent
