Carpet - can't decide!

I am stuck trying to decide what type of carpet to use to replace carpet in several rooms of my open floor plan. Currently most of the rooms have a cream basic saxony carpet. My great room has a thicker frieze type with the various color specs. I also have medium oak floors throughout the hallways and kitchen area. I would like to pick one carpet for the rooms and I can't decide if I should go with the standard (speckled) style or switch to a newer more modern cut/loop that has a slight pattern (I've attached pictures of this style). My main concerns besides overall look/style are comfort and having something that will hold up style-wise. I intend for this to stay on the floors for a while. I've seen some of the cut/loop patterns but am not sure if it makes sense throughout the house vs maybe a basement. This will be in the greatroom; office; dining room; upstairs bedrooms/hallway. I may use a separate more fun/pattern style for my stairs but that's decision #2. Has anyone had any experience with this style throughout their home?
