Even if the pepper is still firm to the touch? It is the only pepper that I have to bring up to my nephew. Otherwise I wouldn't care.

Take a pic of the pepper and post it. Brain strain has an indent, guess you can compare it to a belly button lol but that may be what you are referring to.

Greengrass: most likely an insect bore inside and is now pupating and rotting the pepper from the inside out. If your nephew doesn't mind chewing on larvae and rotted flesh, then, by all means, save it. :) You'd be better off waiting for unblemished pods and then mailing him some. JMO

I had earwigs bore holes and hide into my Habs late last season, perhaps something similar is going on. That was definitely larger than a pinhole though, maybe 1/8" max

Exactly, that's not a hole from an insect, just part of the pepper formation. Also I would suspect a cross since the skin is smooth. But the other characteristics look good.

I thought that they had little bumps on them from the pictures that I had seen. Anyway, I grew them last year and a friend tried a little piece after I warned him what to expect. All I can say is the cross maintained a lot of the heat because his face turned white then red and he could barely talk for about 30 seconds.

Yeah...the pic definitely helps. Looks like just a shape/formation of the pepper---not an insect.
