You could try Howard's Restor-A-Finish for whatever wood your cabinets are. My south-facing cabinets had 30 years of high-altitude extreme-UV sun exposure and the Restor-A-Finish didn't help but if your cabinets haven't had that extreme damage, for $9/can it'd be worth a try.

I'd think about a reface job and new doors and drawer fronts. The reface doors are as good or better than any.

Do you mean faded stained cabinets or painted cabinets?

Refinishing is not hard, but it is time consuming and messy. My mother had a few of her stained cabinet doors refinished by a competent refinisher and they match the original perfect - and continue to match a few years later. The price was very reasonable, but she lives in the Midwest. Often a reputable paint store can give you a recommendation on a competent refinisher.

Gel stain can do wonders. There are lots of threads on it.
