It is quite common for adeniums to change i have had D/R I promise to a friend a common pink single the year before. most people know i don't like common pinks. I was keeping it so it was flowering it turned out a triple It was beautiful so they do change try a good trace elements the substrate we generally use leaches nutrients pretty quickly good luck

Purple flowers need to be kept in filtered light also all dark flowers

Lisa, I think your flower is beautiful the way it is. You will find that the purple will change depending on fertiliser and also heat and humidity makes a big difference. This is pretty common, so don't worry too much about it. :)

Peter, I did not know this. I do have shade from a big oak tree I could put them under. But they still would have the morning sun.

Thanks Rachel, actually this was my ever first multiple. Most of what I have is the regular single bloom, white, pink, red, and pink and white. I'm trying to stretch my adenium wings and really branch out this year. They are my favorite hobby!

Lisa, your plant still needs sun, morning sun is good. Sometimes the purples and blacks develop and hold their colour better when given filtered light in the hottest part of the day. You may also find that some liquid flowering fertiliser will bring the purple back without having to change how much sun it gets. Adeniums don't always like getting moved around. Sometimes they drop some leaves in response to change.

Also the PH may have shifted. PH has a strong effect on how blue or pink blooms may be - depending on the genetics of the individual plants. Some plants like more acidic soil to throw more blue in the flowers (like hydrangea) but some require more lime and I haven't done any tests yet to push purples with higher or lower PH with adeniums. Has anyone else here?

I think they are both pretty, to be honest. And as we have discussed before, first flowers aren't ideal to showcase how the plant will bloom with full maturity as the flowers tend to be better when the trees are older. So I think it's not a bad start at all and has nice color and form. It will likely only get better with time. ;)

Thanks Rick, great picture!!! And that was exactly what I was expecting so it gives me hope that mine will eventually look like yours. After an auto accident my plants have suffered but I'm back on my feet and excited that I can begin to maintain what I have as well as add to the collection. Just like the plumeria I have noticed the flowers of my adeniums vary greatly depending on the heat and the amount of rain we've had. I do love those dark colors.
