How tall and wide they get depends on growing conditions i.e. climate, soil, fertilizer etc., but they are always big. Use a large, heavy pot (clay or ceramic) to keep them from toppling in the wind. Good luck!

Be sure to research the different varieties and their descriptions. And you can grow castor plants in containers, but a small pot will restrict their growth.

I hadn't seen a tag, but it was in there, just pushed deep into the soil. The variety is

Carmencita. I didn't have a large clay pot, so I put it into the largest plastic pot I had (1 foot in diameter) and put a brick in the bottom under the soil to help weigh it down, and used a soil potting mix (not soilless) as it was heavier.

I grow castor beans in the ground in partial shade and by the time end of summer rolls around, they are ten to twelve feet tall. Conversely, I have had castor beans growing in other parts of my garden as well as in planters, and they never get that large.
