I purchased a Poke Milkweed plant from Mary Ann at Pine Ridge Gardens last fall, as I was curious as to how it would do in my garden. I am slightly west of the range for this plant. It is grown in states that border Oklahoma, but has not been reported here. I thought that the plant was not going to return this spring, as it emerged later than a lot of my other milkweeds. I am happy to say that the plant is thriving in a partial shade/partial sun spot and bloomed this spring. I did not get any seed pods. I did locate seeds and after cold stratification, the seeds germinated easily. The new plants are growing and thriving. I found eggs on this plant, so the Monarchs approve. The leaves are larger than incarnata and appear to be tender. They look like poke greens, thus the common name. I've included a photo showing leaves and flowers.
