It is lovely-how long does yours stay in bloom, Sheila? Mine bloomed two weeks ago but the blooms only lasted a few days.

Judy, I actually cut the bloom spike and put the flowers in a vase. I am concerned for the wellbeing of the coreaulea plant. The flammea-sanguinea lasted about two weeks.

I must correct an error on the ID . This plant name is Purpurata werkhauserii and I so hope I can keep it alive. It now has only two psbs. The newer one that produced the flower was lost. The mysterious disease where the psb becomes brown at the base and works itself up to claim the entire psb.. If I ever run across another werkhauserii, I'll purchase another.

Well if you're interested, I'm getting ready to give mine away and will ship it for cost. Unfortunately I don't know what cultivar it is or remember where I got it. It just says L.Purpurata and it's fairly large. PM me if it's something you're interested in. It's a little too fussy for me with such short-lived blooms.

Like this shade of blue. Is p. werkhauserii considered tricky to grow?

I ,will find out this coming year. I now have another healthy plant (thank you Judy). The flammea posted on another thread has done well for me. This problem with the psbs turning black at their base has plagued me. Not just on the werkhauserii, but on other catts as well. I've no idea what's causing it, nor ow to treat it

Hi Sheila, is the potting medium broken down? What is the make up of the medium? Does the pot have holes in the side? What is your watering schedule? What do you feed them? How often and dose. Light exposure too.

The times I've had shoots turn black is when plants are crowded with resulting poor air circulation. Even outdoors. Sometimes larger plants block breezes on smaller ones or even the same plant has so many leads it crowds itself. Also, late evening watering was a problem for me, so I water mid afternoon, never after sunset, so plants have a chance to dry.
