So pretty! I llove these blooms, nicknamed my first flower Alien. I almost killed my pl.ant (crown rot). It is slowly making its way back. I was hoping my plant would bloom this season. No splkes o be found..

The potting set up is quite poor. Its basically bare root sitting in coco fiber basket.

It was planted in sphag and small wood chips but the birds decided they loved sphag and coco fiber for their nests. They pulled out all the sphag including some roots and proceeded to destroy the rest of the basket.

It will have to be repotted. I'll wait until it finishes flowering. The roots are very thin like thread.

Darlene I grew this in a pot in NY. It was in sphag and wood chips with perlite. I think it grew better in NY then Florida. It likes a cool down in the fall and is not happy about the long dry period then torrential rains which happen here.

Sheila, this got crown rot on the main plant when we first moved down here. It didn't kill it but produced many offshoots. I try to grow it so rain doesn't collect in the crown.

Well all things considered it is doing well. I never would have thought about birds messing with the sphagnum and the fibers.
