Do marigolds grow slowly? I'm trying to grow some marigolds from seeds. I planted them in a big pot and they get sunlight pretty much all day. It's been about 3-4 weeks now and the seedlings are still barely an inch and a half high. Possibly I over-watered them as I didn't know you are supposed to let the soil get dry with marigolds before watering again. Also it rained a lot lately. I have them in a special type of pot that is designed to drain excess water (Misco Self-Watering Plant Spa). The soil seems moist so I didn't water them today.

Fertilize them with a water soluble fertilizer like Miracle Gro. They need full sun. Yes, by now they should be bigger.

I read that you can use a home-made "fertilizer" with epsom salt and sugar, then add that to the water and it is supposedly just the same as Miracle Grow. It that true? I have epsom salt already in my house.

No, it's not true. Use fertilizer meant for plants.
