Pink lemonade blueberry

Bought three 3-galloon pink lemonade blueberries about 4-5 years ago. I have yet to get one single berry from them. I have to admit that I did transplant them twice due to moving but they have been in the same sunny spot for 2-3 years now. I have not done a ph soil test, but the blackberries and raspberries next to them are thriving.

Does anyone have good success with it? Btw, I am in NJ, the birthplace of PL blueberries.

There are numerous reports online of similar results with this cultivar - appears to be perfectly healthy but doesn't flower or fruit. It may be more of a berry oddity than a good, productive selection.....some plants are just a lot better than others :-)

btw, blueberries require much different growing conditions than do raspberries or blackberries, so I would definitely have your pH tested. It is a rather critical factor for blueberries..........

Fruits fine for me in San Jose with all my other blue BB's. Has a good taste as well and fun to give to people it kind of melts their brain when they see it and try it.

Do you have any successful BB's? as prior post mentioned, they have different requirements than rasp or black

I would parrot the soil test, blue berries need the right PH or they will not produce, they will grow nicely, but not produce. Also, they will only flower on 1-3 year old wood, so regular pruning is necessary. I have two plants in Nebraska, and my biggest problem is keeping the younger wood safe from the rabbits over the winter.

I have 2 other blueberries (chandler) that are recovering from the move. Then I bought a couple of new bluecrops last year and they are doing beautifully.

I am considering pulling out the PL blueberries as they are taking up space.

I'm very intrigued by the pink lemonade blueberry. We don't have that in Australia.

How does it taste? Does it taste like the normal blueberries? Or does it have a different flavour from the norm?

Beats me. I never had one to taste. I know it was developed by Rutgers, which is like University in New Jersey. So, it's supposed to be mire native to the NJ areas.

if what Jason said is true. Should I cut the branches down to hope that it send out new shoot next spring?

I am having success with it here in San Diego. Since I got it a couple months ago it's grown probably 1.5-2 ft taller and has put out some berries. Nothing crazy but for year one my wife and I are happy.

Hi Bacon, could you please tell us what those pink lemonade blueberries of yours tasted like? How was the flavour? How does it compare to the other normal blueberries? I'm very tempted to import the pink lemonade from the state.

Hey Alec: my wife and I both like them. They are unique in color and not too sweet. We don't have too much experience with blueberries besides store bought and I would say they beat them hands down. I like it better than the O'Neal berry bush we have but both are good. My buddy had suggested this variety and I am happy with the plant so far.
