I like a gray roof. but go with what's popular in the neighborhood unless you want to stand out.

IMHO go for the darkest roof always ! Works 99% of the time the best with all colors. And will be there 20-30 years or more depending on the quality.

I'd ask myself....what attracted me to this house at first sight? Was it the color? Did you like the clea lines, and the landscaping? And if those appealed to you, then I'd stay with colors you have now.
If you're thinking about changing the look completely, then I'd go with another color, but I agree with iamsugar that you should also consider what the neighborhood has been doing.

Depending on the climate, a dark roof can be hell in the summer because it absorbs the heat and radiates it into the house. We have a black roof (thank you, landlord) and we have to hose it down to cool the house off when it is hot outside. I should add that our average temp in summer is only 67 degrees.

That's a good point, we liked this house because it was quaint and sort of like a little cottage. So maybe best to try to retain that look somehow...

I have proper insulation and the black roof never was a problem, we also had climate controlled exhaust fans that kick on when the temperature gets to warm to pull out the heat from the attic area. Also the codes have improved where roof vents are a must now when re roofing. So that would be a matter to you would want to consider. The roof you have now looks to be dark and the color looks good on your home. Light color roofs do discolor and can become streaked much more quickly and can look aged or old because of the light color after a few years. I have had 8 homes in my life and maintenance and good looks score well with me to with roof colors.

@ Here design I would have some one check your insulation in your home. If your staying there very long maybe the landlord would help out for improvements. You would save tons of money on A/C bills at 67 degrees there is something seriously wrong. Not to mention the cost of heat too. Some areas even have special funding for better R values to save energy cost. Find out and talk with your landlord. I hope this helps you.

The tile roof and asian peek gables combined with the large modern windows and courtyard orientation make this a polynesian inspired home. I see palms, so I'm going to suggest you search island architecture for inspiration.

The terracotta brick is definitely not what you would find in the tropics - just like a lot of builder tracts in that time period, people got to pick and choose their finishes so you would get these amalgams.

The chart posted looks like metal roof options rather than tile and I'm going to say you want iron bark. Seems closest in the earth tone family / darkest / most like a thatched roof color. The metal roof will not retain heat like tile / masonry does but it will get hot so if they are switching types, make them insulate where you may not have had it before, or add an attic fan if you are inland where it gets too hot. When you paint a dark taupe in your little peaks and on the garage door, it will really start to give island character. Look at sw black fox.

Then you can eventually stain the brick a dark greige / taupe / beef up the timbers at the lanai to 6 x 8's, use some ocean colors like aqua on the front door, add some wood screening in front of the entry courtyard planter and consider an asian inspired garden and seating in that entry courtyard. The charm of this home is its mid century modern character - large windows, courtyard feel, but cozy scale. @Here Design. I agree with Kevin. If the landlord isn't motivated to figure out what the issue is with the roof, remind Landlord that the added constant cycling on the heating and air conditioning will shorten the life of the system. Myself. I live in NC we can sustain pretty high temperatures for periods of time in the summer, (high 90's). I have a orangey reddish brick house. I replaced the roof several years ago with a black roof. The house looked so much better. I also painted all the trim white (when I bought it, the trim was all red, yuck). Black door, added extra wide white trim around door. All the neighbors were astounded at how a just sorta blah house looked so crisp and inviting.

I like the idea of a fence then you could have a main gate to create a main entrance focus from the street. Which would be very inviting from the street for curb appeal. Do you need a new roof for maintenance reasons? Because I like what you have unless you have to replace it. You have a expensive roof on the home right now.

re glazing the glass isn't that costly if you only change the glass and not the whole window.

Yes the roof needs repairs and they will be doing a new colour. We could just choose this same colour though - kinda a brownish

If you are after a complete new look then the birch grey roof with duck egg blue windows and birch grey colour equivalent render would look stunning !!!

I like the burlap color roof it has some brown undertones in it and seems to be more neutral which will go nicely with the brick at present and if you change it in the future.

Slate gray or charcoal with corresponding trim, with proper insulation it will e no problem. Clearly you saw the potential in this house when u bought it

If you put a gray roof on a brown/gold/tan house, it's going to look awful. Given the strong color of the brick, it'll have to be a "brown" tone so I suggest Merino, Wheat or Afghan. I know these colors don't reproduce true on a computer.

Having said that, you should see if it's possible to get a color called Bronze. It may have to be another color palette. It's a fantastic color, rich, classy, and looks like old copper.
