artabotrys hexapetalus

Does anyone have this plant! only reason i ask is i have now bought 3 of these and every time the plant has turned out to be artabotrys siamensis not artabotrys hexapetalus! And artabotrys hexapetalus is by far the superior plant with more flowers per bunch and longer lasting flowers. Just interested if anyone has both plants

I just received hexapetalus from gardino's today. Still small, no flowers. Can't wait to see them. I wouldn't be able to tell if the plant was siamensis or indeed hexapetalus either way. Sorry I can't add anything. How is the fragrance on siamensis? I will let you know if hexapetalus blooms for me in the near future but I think it will be a while. From the photos I've seen it seems like this plant has to put on some size before it blooms.

That is the problem Tom they can be very hard to tell apart until they flower. As for the fragrance on Siamensis its wonderful a really strong fruity fragrance one little flower can fill a room but on siamensis the flower only lasts 24 hours and is only fragrant for i would say around 12hrs, as the flower has to turn yellow before it gives off any fragrance. My plant is around 4 foot height including pot

Not sure if I sniffed a hexapetalus, but the picked flower did give off a scent longer than 1 day. It smelled like jackfruit chips. Really nice scent. :)

I trust Gardino's knows which plant they have, but even the best nurseries make ID mistakes. Too bad the flower/scent doesn't last too long on siamensis, although one little flower filling a room with scent sure makes up for it. And I'm not familiar with jackfruit chips..sounds interesting! Thank you both for the info. I hope my plant blooms soon! On another note I also received Hoya citrina and Aglaia odorata in the same order from Gardino's and the aglaia is small but covered in buds!! Very exciting.

How long does Artabotrys take to start blooming? I am planning to get it from Gardinos as well. Do they sell rooted curttings/airlayer or seedlings? The previous time I had it for about 18 months, it grew into a nice sized plant in a 12" pot, did not bloom . I am guessing it was a seedling and had to mature for a couple more years.

Here's the A. hexapetalus that I received from Gardino's last week. I'd guess you have to air layer this one but I don't know as I've never tried to propagate one. I'm fine with the size for 12 measly bucks. It probably will take a couple years to bloom though. I need to pot mine up soon.

Fragrant, nice ! Is that a bud or a flower? I remember seeing slightly open flowers from my childhood days, but can't be sure if they were hexapetalus or siamensis.

fragrant, how long have you had the three plants before they bloomed? Are they from different sources?

    Thank you for sharing!.

That is a bud as soon as it begins to open you will be able to tell if you have siamensis or hexapetalus as siamensis petals are more soft and thin looking where as hexapetalus are way more waxy and thick! Prob why the flowers last longer.

The plant was shipped in from Thailand

Wow fragrant, that's nice! I love the leaves. I'm surprised the plant is that large in that small pot! Now I'm wondering what size to move it up to from the 4" pot.

I just bought an A.hexapetalus from Thailand as well. It will be a small cutting. It may takes year to flower and find out if I have a hexapetalus. Do you remember which shop did you buy your siamensis?
