White or off-color leaf tips are often a sign of leaf scorch/too much sun. But they also usually have a dry appearance, which these do not........in fact they look pretty succulent :-) If excessive sun exposure, it must have been pretty recent.

It also looks like some Phyllosticta leaf spot developing.

Now that you mention it we did have a big tree fall down this past winter, so this tree is seeing a bit more sun than in previous years. Could this be a contributing factor? Will it adapt in coming years? It only sees sun from dawn until maybe noonish, then dapply to shade.

I mulch with finely shredded oak, hickory, and poplar leaves and this would also include leaves that have fallen from all my ornamentals. Is this a practice I need to reconsider?

Mine gets a whole lot more sun than yours but does not develop scorch........then again, PNW sun even in summer is not very strong :-)) (And it is also much more golden in color - I had to look twice and check a couple of resources to confirm yours as Autumn Moon). But by 'recent', I meant within the last few weeks, as I would expect to see more drying if they had received this exposure all season.

And I wouldn't be particularly concerned bout the leaf spot. It is more cosmetic than anything harmful or requiring treatment. I'm not sure the leaf mulch has much bearing, although I would probably avoid using the leaves from any trees with obvious disease issues.

Thing is, it's always been gold in the past, even as recently as 5-21-17

From my photos this has only appeared within the last two weeks.
