Forever 21 quality?

My seven year old really likes t-shirt dresses. Her favorite outfits this past school year were leggings and t-shirt dresses from NextDirect Like this:

Unfotunately this year's versions are sold out (they do have one sleeveless one in stock which I might order, but I'd prefer short sleeves--or long sleeves even)

This does not seem to be a common style as I haven't seen them at my other usual go-to places for kid clothes, but through Google I did find forever 21 has some.

For example:

But I have never bought anything from forever 21 before. I don't need heirloom quality. Dd will outgrow whatever I get her--probably in a year or so. And she's my youngest so hand me downs aren't a consideration. But I don't want to buy stuff that's going to fall apart after four or five wearings either.

Anyone have experience with forever 21 quality? (Or happen to have spotted other tshirt dresses in little girl's sizes--probably an 8.)

I don't, but I Googled reviews of Forever 21. I'm just going to put a link here, and let you look through them. I see they aren't good, but I don't know if that is the quality of the merchandise, or something else.

Cheap quality. My DD's shopped there as teens and something now still stop in. It's a good way to get something current and not invest too much in it.

Your daughter will be growing out of her clothing quickly. I would wash on gentle/hand wash cycle and hang dry. I don't think it would stand up to regular washing and dryer like better quality clothing.

I find Forever 21 to be about the same quality as Old Navy in many of their items.

I checked old navy, gap, lands end, and Gymboree and didn't find anything I thought she would like as much. I keep checking NextDirect because they do sometimes restock, but no luck so far. I haven't checked h&m yet, I don't have any experience with their kids clothes. I found their quality very uneven when I bought a few things for myself there.

Thanks for the input and suggestions!

H&M has a couple. They are 95 percent cotton, which suggests better quality than the forever 21 dresses. They are slightly more expensive, but that would be good if they hold up better.

Forever 21 does not claim to sell QUALITY garments. It caters to the world of trends and fads kids wanting NEW NEW NEW so it doesn't have to be. No kid is going to wear any item enough times to warrant them being any better QUALITY. Think Wal Mart w/o the "stigma".

I think Gap is higher in quality than Old Navy. Do you have a Kohl's near you?

Also, all the major department stores have tons of sales and coupon offers. If you keep watching, you can get a better quality item for much less.

Put things in your shopping bag and check back every so often. I am on email lists so I get alerts about sales, then I check my bag to see if anything is on it.

I very rarely go into department stores. It seems unlikely that I would find this style there? Since it is so hard to find online.

As far as whether quality matters at all for kids clothes, well, she wore the two tshirt dresses she had last year constantly as they were her first choice of clothes most of the time. I'd guess she's worn each about 30-35 times. So it does matter to me that they not fall apart after a handful of washings. (And she doesn't get new just because she is tired of her clothes. Does anyone buy new clothes for a seven year old for that reason?)

I've never bought anything in Forever 21 because it always looked poorly made to me. But I used to shop in Next in the UK all the time for items for my grandkids when they were younger. Very well made and cute things for infants up to size 10-12, although the older things were harder to find.

I used to dissuade my girls from shopping there. A combo of very poor quality and a sinking feeling that such low prices must mean horrible exploitation of someone, somewhere. Of course, all of our clothing is made outside the US now and on a relative basis, using my standards, conditions are not good for any garment workers; but what is their alternative (whole 'nother thread).

Long story short I have caved and I am glad I did. Their tastes are mercurial, they do not want to wear anything twice to a social occasion, and a lot of what they wear gets abused (trampled on, shoved in a drawer, washed incorrectly). I am fine with it now. There is still the environmental issue of course ...

Anyway, they have super cute stuff that looks terrible after 5 washings, max. The thing that really slays me is they sell a lot of stuff that is Dry Clean Only, a process that costs more than the item.

Thank you all for the ideas and input!

Mtn, I have become so conscious of this as well since my oldest started her clothing line. Maybe if more entrepreneurs will go in the same direction, we will have more sustainable choices.

I never looked at the site until recently after seeing the name pop up in a post. Did a quick search and found this to wear with capri leggings this fall. Was only $9, so no big deal if it doesn't last.

In a word, disposable. It's cheap for a reason, but my DD wanted it and I let her have it. It was a good learning experience for her about quality.
