I agree, I was just testing. I posted it because sometimes if I don't "save" it I regret it, so no worries. I also did the black island with cabinet pictures. Kind of weird but Houzz doesn't give you many ways to do things like photoshop and I simply haven't had time to master that tool. I do like that first one you posted if we can get the right color. I also think a herringbone look would work as well. And Beth is the Herringbone Master!

Haha...I thought the island effect was pretty creative, actually. And the hardware is strikingly effective with the combination...not to mention my pretty little cookbook bookcase looks much more like part of the gang with that effect. I liked the idea of the blackened pewter or iron or whatever it was we talked about.

You noticed the hardware! Keen eye I'm thinking. Yes, those are black metal, if you paint the island I think you will need to go black. The darkened pewter I tried and it doesn't look right. With the other black elements it kind of looked like we "missed" the mark, if you know what I mean.

Ah, yes, I can see that. I wonder if a dark oiled bronze would look black enough, though I'm not opposed to the black hardware. There is a lovely salvage place not far from our house, and they may have some old forged iron stuff, I seem to remember. Is something like this too rustic?

By the way, the bottom of the "wheel" on the dining fixture is 30" from table, and bottom of light row is 32". It looks a bit higher, but the other little apothecary single pendant we had there was 30 inches from the decorative bottom and 33" from the bottom of the shade, and it looked higher, too. Josh the electrician (6'1"), Bob the husband (5'7") and I (5'4") sat down, stood up, leaned across the table and made lunging movements not usually seen at tables without a lot of adult beverages having been consumed and politics being discussed, and we didn't bash into the fixture, though Josh felt putting it lower might be risky for him.

Wheel over dining table is perfect. Love it. Hallway is brilliant! Sometimes errors lead to amazing solutions. I love that idea! Looks great and the light is splendid. Now, get out the Kleenex box. I am not in love with the Orb on the landing area. Sorry, have to be honest. Is it OK, yea. It just looks too modern for what you have going on in your home. Plus, it is too open. You need something with more "presence" and character there. boo-hoo. Hey, 2 out of 3 ain't bad!

[Sniff...sob]. Okay, how's this, then? We carry on with the other light fixtures as discussed, and then we revisit the orb. I'll be honest...it looks amazing in person, but it seemed a bit too small or floaty or something when I looked at the photo, possibly the open aspect you've identified that has me feeling just a bit worried about it. That could easily be resolved by putting it in the entry instead (reminder pic below) which is smaller and more enclosed. That won't fix the "too modern" concern you have, though when you see it in person, the metal has a more noticeably rustic look that does tone down the modernity...the shape is the shape, though. Glad the other two are working for you...and yes, the hall light idea was a happy surprise!
