I agree. Often less is more. Often people try to do too much with design/tiles and it ends up looking hodge podge.

Depends how you do them and what your shower looks like.

That tile you picked can be a little blah. I don't blame you for wanting to jazz it up a bit. Maybe put in a long niche and tile that.

Depends... Lots of people totally overdo it, but on the other hand, a full wall of white tile, especially floor to ceiling in a small space, can start to look like a prison or school gym. Keep the border small and tasteful (i.e., not a loud divergence from or contrast with the rest of the room, and it can be just right in some situations.
