Just received my order from Rinoa, all look great except one, Beauty Witch, everything seems firm except the caudex below the soil level, a bit to soft and discolored and the feeder roots seem fine. I sent email with a picture to Rinoa to see what she says.

    Al,

Nice looking plants w decent size caudex and nice growth above graft. Hopefully the Beauty Witch will be fine. Good to send her a note and photo.

Looking forward to seeing them bloom for you. Have you ever used a root stimulator? They work great. I use one w Vit B and many friends use one that I cannot get here called "Kangaroots" (hydroponic store) and they swear by it.

    Rcharles-

thanks for the info I have never used a root stimulant unless B1 works as one but that was a long time ago.

Riona replied this eve, sorry about rot but their policy is she will refund or replace and I have to pay $25 for shipping. In a second email she said if decide to keep the replacement plant to the next order she will give a free plant which I may do as there are two others I wanted, one I lost out on because I waited to long placing the order and the other only gave the option of buying 6.

I am going to pot up Beauty Witch tomorrow and cross my fingers but given the color I'm not holding my breath.

    Al,

Glad you got a response. Is Rinoa saying you can keep the effected plant and she will replace it and give a free plant if you order more?

I guess they do not want to be 'out of pocket' for resending, but this is an issue I have had and truly do not understand. We all understand that these plants can be hung up for a month to manipulate roots, branches with no ill effects. So how is it that in processing a plant in Taiwan and in most cases it may take 3-4 days to make it to the US and Customs Clearing, then 2-3 days to make it to the buyer. Making it a total of 7 days in transit. Even if you add on a few days for processing in Taiwan prior to shipping, 9-10 days. No plant if sent in top shape with no root discoloration (brusing or rot) should arrive with root effected as such. MAKES NO SENSE.

Not trying to make a big issue from this, it just bothers me when I hear of this especially when ordering is placed in optimum weather for shipping.

If one is going to order more, then it works out as long as you keep the number of plants ordering within the prescribed number before it bumps the EMS shipping into the next price range.

Sorry, Al. For my rant. Just make sure you are clear on what she is going to do first.

I was thinking earlier when I was reading this thread is she up to her old tricks? This is not what she was going to do,if there is a rotting problem if i can recall she was going to replace the affected plant free of charge no cost to the customer rick once again I'm with you there eyes must be painted on.not to be able to see the rot

    Rick,

That is what she is saying and I wasn't planning on ordering until next if at all, there are two other plants(sold out) I really like that would have been in this order less a couple of the ones ordered as these were on a summer sale and maxed out shipping. I agree with you and I doubt rot occurred during shipping without moisture. I should contact PayPal, I'm sure doing that would get her attention. I read her policy this morning and is isn't addressed, her policy pretty much talks about not being responsible for damage and loss.

    Peter,

I agree there should be no cost which she is replacing for free and customer should not be responsible for shipping cost if the company is at fault.

    Al,

She used to have on the website something about not being responsible for loss due to Customs (length of time and plants suffering) and there was something about replacement, but the cost of shipping the buyer would have to pay upon replacing a plant? Cannot see her site at present.

This happened to me. I had a plant received rotten. Rinoa said she would replace on next order free of charge. Problem, I was not really wanting to reorder at that time (late in year), but I did not want it to get lost in the time frame for next spring. So I reordered. Thing is, I thought if I am going to Pay for Reshipping for rotten plant replacement and was getting more plants and my order was over the (2-3 plants at ?.? EMS Shipping). She would not include the replacement and cover the extra cost, as I was 1 plant over putting the Shipping up by $5.US. TOTAL CRAP AND DISHONEST.

If ORIENT ADENIUM wants to keep a good name and continue doing business, then they are responsible to send QUALITY PLANTS or people will stop buying and word of mouth will effect their business. I have to apply for a Permit here and was in the Process of doing so, so I could order more. I am very Reluctant to do so now.

I had mentioned to Rinoa in emails from the last go around with someone else's rotten plants. " IF YOU WENT INTO A NURSERY OR CLOTHING STORE. YOU WOULD NOT BUY THE DAMAGED PLANT. IF YOU WHERE TO BUY IT, IT WOULD BE REDUCED IN PRICE AND YOU WOULD KNOW THIS UPON LEAVING" In the case of buying plants through ORIENT ADENIUM, RINOA. You trust that she will send healthy plants.

NO ADENIUM WOULD BE ROTTEN IN SHIPMENT FROM HER UNLESS IT WAS UNHEALTHY WHEN IT WAS SENT! as long as it was in the peramters of good time frame from shipping to receiving (2 wks, 14 days is not enough to have rotten plants at this time of year).

Notify PayPal and start a Claim. Tell them of your conversation and that you sent her a photo. Resend another message to Rinoa and then send this reply to PayPal.

It is absolute garbage that you or anyone should have to pay again for her to ship a plant you paid for in good faith.

Sorry again, Al. I realize that this may just irritate you with my words, but quite franckly. Too many times people just sit back and do not say anything, but you had better hope that when you are facing the same situation as you are, that others had said something or they have no one to blame than themselves.

    So disappointing.

Not this, again! CRAP! I was kinda hoping that she'd adopted a new policy and this wasn't even going to come into question again.

    Hi Everyone,

I thank you all for the feedback and totally agree and searched google for her shipping and return policy and I only found her return policy on plant at her older webpage(attached). Her new website doesn't address live plants. I called PayPal yesterday, the woman agreed with me kept saying I could open a complaint. I have not responded to Riona yet but will with a question about two other plants that I wanted that were not available to purchase and when they will be available keeping the shipping cost at $25. If plants are not available until next year I will ask for a refund expressing my displeasure about paying shipping twice.

I have never had this issue with other orders though I have concerns about my one and only Adeniumcenter order and Cucumber virus after reading a posting here as some leaves look mottled though hardly noticeable.

UPDATE- I decided to go with Rinoa's option of a replacement and free plant with a new order as one of the plants I asked her about before my decision all of the sudden became available as single vice 5 or 10 plants only. In the interim I planted Beauty Witch

which I ended up pulling and slicing all the soft out, It seemed to loose in the pot compared to the other 5 after a week or so. It healed over in a couple of days and am hoping the root I left behind will help in recovery.

Good luck you will have plenty of help from here:×)

Today I received a replacement and free plant with a new order from Rinoa and want to be really pissed but too tired from today's activities. 1- The postal guy made no attempt to see if anyone was home then he saw me standing behind my gate, I made a comment about the damaged box and all he said was sign here? The first Order from Rinoa the box is almost perfect, the last two box's from Florida were damaged? but plenty of room for Arabicum's to move around.

2- One soft purchased adenium? I have not contacted Rinoa yet. There is some abrasion on the adenium, the green part of the adenium caudex is soft with some discoloration, the white part of the caudex is soft with firm roots below?

I think this one would be hard to to salvage? I'm crossing my fingers on the other one I cut the caudex off as I have never done this on such young plants. The rest are all good and I have a feeling the free one will be given away or I will try and sell on Ebay, I did ask for a specific plant since I had to pay for shipping to replace a plant that came defective but her comment was that she had not control over free plants. I tried.

No way I'm disappointed for you. before potting them give them a soak in seaweed solution 1/2 strength some say a week solution of lime i personally use the seaweed but i dont get my plants from another country. Suppose Queensland is another country (for the Aussies tongue in cheek):×)

Hey Peter, soaking in lime or seaweed is a new one on me, I have never soaked before planting and never had an issue. Now the only issues I have had in 4 or 5 years of ordering have been from Orient as far as quality. The first order are all leafing out and seem to have sent root out as they do not move freely in their pots. The one I cut the caudex off of seems to be holding it's own and no special treatment other than clean knife. Now, don't get me started on deceptive sellers(Ebay).

The seaweed solution helps with shock its not a fertilizer i use 1/2 strength seeweed every water its more a healthy tonic for your plants. i thought orient would not go there again keep onto her she has to be brought back into line or we don't buy from her if she cannot treat use write this forum goes everywhere its bought her into line once before.
