My okra is about that tall right now (at least some of them), and they are a few days to a week from putting on flowers. I think I planted them (from seed) on June 1st.

My response is the same as the others---early in the season I do have to bend over to harvest okra---I was doing just that yesterday. If you haven't ever had to bend over before, you might have been planting your okra earlier when the weather was cooler so it just didn't start producing until the weather was hotter and the plants had been growing longer and therefore were taller. I planted my okra really late so it just started to produce and the plants aren't even knee-high yet. Except for the last 5 or 6 days, my area has been hot, dry and in drought, so it is perfect okra weather here.

My okra is only about a foot tall and I have some that needs to be harvested already.

My okra is 4 inches tall right now. (laughing) I planted 13 seedlings in the garden last week. That's probably more than enough for me. I hated getting in them in so late, but it is....what it is. lol

My first batch got eaten by bunnies so I had to start over. The current seedlings are only 6". I was wondering if anyone has had luck transplanting the extras that came up? Since I only planted a few, now I'm hoping I can relocate the extra seedlings from each hole I dropped multiple seeds in. I've got a spot ready for them, but wasn't sure if they'd survive. Especially now that it's so hot. Guess I'll try it and see!

I have had good luck replanting small plants with post hole diggers. Just remove a plug of soil where you want the plant, then go get the new plant and remove about the same size of plug with it. Plop it down in the new location firmly so soil will stay packed. Next you will want to sit the first plug to the location where the plant came from. If the plants are not small you may damage them with the post hole diggers.

Like Slowpoke_gardener said only I use a small garden shovel just move them with soil around the roots and water them after setting them in their hole. I have moved many with success.

I remember having to harvest okra with a step ladder too :) I prefer bending over vs moving the ladder.

So I found my first okra flowers today on my heavy hitter variety. Planted in the first week of June, so not bad for about 5 weeks! I should probably do another thinning, but I cannot get myself to do so, I went around with the garden hose this morning and blasted off as many aphids as I could see, and hopefully that will keep them in check for a week or so.

Dawn, have you thought about getting snake tongs? You can get them in multiple lengths and they would allow you to catch and move the snakes.
