Beautiful! I grow Optimara Traditions but it doesn't bloom for me, but the foliage is beautiful. I am looking for a plant with similar foliage, your new friend fits the bill. The blooms are also lovely. Under what conditions do you grow?

Optimara Tradition-- variety belonging to the Victorian Charm series. Medium, standard African Violet (4-inch pot size) with single, pink flowers and variegated leaves. Introduced 1995. (AVSA Reg. No. 8337)

This is a beautiful violet. I do like the Victorian Charm series. Rosie

I don't understand,,,,conversations ebb and flo in every thread, and there is a tie in from Amy and Aegis. Have you read a lot of back threads???? Holy cow they go everywhere at times.

Gosh, Rosie, I don't want to be confrontational either! Sorry if it sounds not friendly! Just saw how on other forums people are talking about the type that was introduced. And more, English is not my first language, so sometimes what I said you guys hear it differently that what I meant. Nothing more.

A lot of times the actual subject does get lost because so many things can refer to similar things. It does not have to stay exactly on track.

Since English is not your first language I can see where it may be difficult for you at times. When this happens, please stay in the thread and ask as many questions as you have to. No one here will mind. This is one of the friendliest forums in garden web.

No offense taken and one bad thing about only being able to read the written word is no one can see or read facial expression to know what a person may really mean.

You are right,,,we may hear what you say differently than what you mean and you may hear what we say differently than what we mean.

Let's just agree to ask all the questions we NEED to so we understand each other. I did not mean to chastise you. If you read a lot of the other threads that have a lot of posts you will see how they talk about lots of stuff.

As far as this thread, you posted about a specific violet, people admired it, compared it to another violet that may be similar, then asked how you grew it and if you think about it they all pertain to your violet! Oh My God - what a beauty!!! Plus this variety is extremely rare. Gorgeous flowers and amazing variegation.

I looked at Optimara Tradition - it is not even in a same league. Yes it is variegated - but the blossoms are very simple average size plain pink pansies. Quite pedestrian.

Ruth Bann hybrids are the tops. If you see a leaf or a starter - take it home and treasure. Her nik is Rebel. I remember Rebel's Rose Bud taking the BIS on AVSA Denver in 2007 - it was breathtaking. I am getting old I guess... remember the winners of 10 years ago... ad do not remember where I put my car keys...

Thank you, Irina! You are right, this is an extremely rare type. You will not find even the pictures of this type on the Internet besides a picture of Eva Britta and mine now. Two leaves of this type was sold on e-Bay last week by Joanne Marie for $37.08.

I should mention in my post: four years ago I bought a leaf of My Friend Ruth for BIG MONEY and when I put it down I was checking it every day - how it's doing. It took a very long time to see babies. I've got two babies only and only one survived. Imagine how I was treating this baby! It took a few re-potting and nerviness, but it worth it - I was in shock when I saw this first blooming and couldn't stop taking pictures of this just four flowers. Then I had a car accident, was sick for a long time and couldn't take care of my plants the way I suppose to. So, lost the plant, but saved just a couple of leaves and started all over. Now I have two plants and a baby. This type is not easy to propagate by the leaf - just from my experience, although don't have problem to propagate from the leaves other types.

Since I am an e-Bay seller I listed one of the plants for this week auction and hope the person who understands the value (not money value) of this type will win it!
