I agree the floor tile is all wrong but to be the bearer of bad news, the floor tile was probably laid first so when you start removing it the chances are the wall tile at the bottom will be damaged .So you have to be prepared to install baseboard along the walls and removal of the floor tile will have to be very carefully done.

I would choose a large rectangular tile in a dark grey and lay it in a "running" pattern. The darker color will give you a little contrast and accentuate the pretty tile on the walls.

Indeed the floor tile is totally inappropriate. As a general rule of thumb its
always important to know what the overall design of the house is to really
accurately guide you on the color and style of flooring to use. In doing a home
its good to have a continuous flow.

If you could find large marble tiles that are mostly whitish with very subtle pattern that would be my first choice. Otherwise large light gray tiles would look great.

yes- much darker and I wouldn't do a marble- use a porcelain or more matte finish ceramic--sorry I don't have a picture to show you

I would love to see a gray/blue slate blue type of product here. You have light, with light, with some light and then there is some light. I would love to see a grayish/blue slate-finish tile. It would anchor the room and give the very light gray/white marble something to play off of.

And by the looks of the painted walls outside the bathroom, there is some blue to work with.

The other thing that seems a snick out of place: the wash stand.

The dark espresso brown is what the travertine orange tile was meant to match. If you have the ability to either replace or even paint the sink stand, I would look to do that. Once the espresso brown has been erased, you will have a completely new look! If you go with a pale stand (gray, white, something that matches the rest of the tones on the walls/tiles), a dark slate blue floor will really have a great impact on this space.

I would not go a lot darker. I like the Flow Gray from Florida Tile for this space. A bit warmer gray since the marble on the wall appears to be Calacatta or something similar. Does not appear to be Carrera.

your marble looks more like a calacatta rather than carrara. you could do a darker wood look porcelain:

or a gray/black slate or porcelain in this shade

or a porcelain in a cement gray tone, this is Marbella Porcelain, 12x24

I know Brickwood said no but consider even darker- I know its personal preference but the darker will really play up your lighter marble and bring out the different tones- just look at a sample- you can always go lighter

I think something simple like this matte gray hex would work. Then bring in some color in a picture with a frame the same color as the vanity. Take some of the colors from the picture to add shower curtain, towels etc. If the existing floor tile is under the wall tile, cut the existing tile as close as you can to the wall, then after the new tile is in, if it looks bad at the joint, maybe a white ceramic quarter round.

are all three of your tile samples the same? I like the middle one, it seems lighter. those will work. a larger hex tile in white or gray will also work.

I look your wood floor tone. that color would be perfect in the bathroom.

the lighter one. the others appear to have a violet cast to the gray. maybe it's just the picture.

This may be far from what you are looking for....but perhaps worth a thought or two. If you painted and stencilled a pattern on say a gray....you could use a number of shades from the tiles in the pattern....it would be a fair amount of work...but much less expensive than a tile change. If your heart is set on a new tile floor...have you considered the wood style tile?

Also...for whatever reason...I do not like the really large tiles on the floor. I think they make the room appear smaller. Of course, this is a total personal preference thing. It does seem to be your preference...thus the wood style tile suggestion.

I like the gray square, the middle tone in your last two photos (I think the one that Beth wrote on). Dark enough to ground all that pattern, but not so dark as to make it too cave-like. I think the light one is just too light, so it adds nothing; the medium one picks up some of the gray veining and variety from the wall tile, making it looks sharper. (The dark one just looks... too dark.)

go for the square grey. It will be great!!
