Noisy central air

I am currently renting my first manufactured home. It's taking some adjustment and getting used to but I did have a question. My central air return air vent is located in the kitchen. It's very loud and when it's running, we have to turn the TV way up and still can hardly hear it. Any tips on how to lessen the noise or is this just common ?

Mine is loud, too. The blower is located in the laundry room. I was able to put a door in but that wouldn't work for you. When/if I have to replace I'll go with a heat pump deal. Much quieter. I know it's annoying but just keep fresh batteries on hand for the remote.
