Slow growing hoya

I bought a Hoya variagata last summer at a local nursery and it has grown very little in the past year and I was wondering if that's normal?

A Hoya variegata? Which variegated Hoya? Carnosa? Obovata? A pic would help!

Carnosa variegata does grow rather slowly, but it should put out at least 4 inches of growth per year (mine averages around 4-10 inches a year).

Are you feeding at each watering? Does it need to be repotted? Roots look okay? When is the last time you checked/changed the potting mix? How much light does it get?

Sorry, it's a carnosa varigata. I usually feed it every 3-4 watering, should I do it more often? I recently moved it to a location with better light since that was my theory about why it's been growing so slowly.

I've had hindu rope do this to me. eventually I got rid of it. It was years ago. Maybe today I would have tried harder to make it work. It happens. I also have one that is not growing for me now. I found out that it really likes cooler weather and I'm pretty lucky it hasn't croaked on me! hehe.

I moved it to get better sunlight like 3 days ago and it has started to put out new growth already! How often should I water it and how often should I feed it?

Watering depends on the kind of soil it's in. If you've got it in a nice loose mix, it'll probably need watering every week or so, more often if it's getting a lot of sun, less often if grown more shady. What exposure are you growing it in? Is it right against the glass or back away from the window? I poke my finger down into my mix about half and inch and if it feels crumbly-dry, I water until it comes out of the drainage holes, toss excess water, and then wait for it to be crumbly dry again. In the summer, this may be every 5-7 days. In the winter, it might be every 2 weeks. As for fertilizing, I use it in every watering, about 1/2 strength. Of course, there are a bazillion different kinds of fertilizer, but since you want to encourage foliar growth, so you'd want one with a higher nitrogen number. HERE is a link to some basics about fertilizing.

I have it planted in a cactus high draining mix I mixed myself and it's on the windowsill of an eastern facing window. Thanks so much!
