Neither. No weird stacked cabinets. No hutch. It impinges on your sink clearance and would be water damaged inside 3 months. The clearance around the island look too tight. What does it measure? It's also a big barrier between the fridge and sink, which is a fatal flaw. A peninsula would work better.

Hire an actual KD. This is just. Not Good.. Way too many Rules Violations. And aesthetic issues. No where near any finalizing anything.

It just looks funny in the corner near the window, one usually puts in a corner cabinet. That cabinet that is on the window wall, just looks out of place - even the hutch looks out of place. Maybe just open shelving there?

Thanks for the reply Sophie! There is 4 ft of clearance on the side near the fridge, and 3 ft on the other side. Currently, my Island only allows 2.5 ft on the side near the dishwasher and I function fine as that side is seldom used.

Is this what you mean by a peninsula?

Yes. A peninsula would allow open traffic paths to all 3 points of the triangle. The island blocks those paths, and is not helping you. It's an obstacle and hip banger.

This is how it would look with a corner cabinet and a peninsula. However, I have a fear that the peninsula will eat into my breakfast table space somewhat and make it crowded.

If the too big and shoved down island doesn't cramp the breakfast area, what makes you think a peninsula will? Properly placed, you get more room, and some seating too, if you want.

HI -- As a former kitchen designer I don't like either plan and also don't agree with having a peninsula . I would put the fridge to the right of the sink with full height side gables and a full depth upper cabinet , so it looks builtin. Then the other side on the left could be all storage and pantry . Then move the island over a bit to make more room between the cabinets if you need more room , but 30 inches is fine but 42 inches is standard . The island can be a little longer and perhaps more narrow. Then that could make room on the right side of island for some seating if you want . Having the fridge to the right of the sink means no interference or bumping into the island . All the working part of the kitchen is to one side . I would not have stacked or glass door cabinets along the top . Going with bigger width cabinets will look less cluttered . If Ikea has full height cabinets (42 inch ) uppers , that would be better than stacking . Have you looked and priced cabinets at any other kitchen cabinet companies ? Better cabinet companies have kitchen designers and not just sales people .
