Variety? some do send up flower spikes. Half runners do send out 2-3 foot vines altho they are usually considered bush beans

It's a landreth's stringless green bean. Bush variety. Should I put up poles to support the runners or will they be okay on their own?

Landreth's should not have runners. You may have something that was mislabeled. A picture would be useful.

I'm thinking I have planted a mislabeled bean then because there are runners on every plant today and they are very long. Guess I'll be buying some poles! Or do tomato stands work okay? Any guess as to what bean plant I have or do I have to just wait and see until I get some beans?

Maxibel fillet bush beans seem to have that same type of growth sending out runners and grabbing onto anything that they happen upon but they don't really need anything to climb to produce well. I just planted a bed of them yesterday.

Tomato stands/cages work just fine for the modestly-climbing varieties. I call the hip-high ones "twiners" myself, and have grown many on wire cages or short bamboo poles.
