How does my soil mix sound?

I live in Houston. I have Cactus soil mix, perlite, and chicken grit (granite). I was thinking of doing equal parts. I never really see anyone talk about mixing their grit with soil. I'm shooting for a good drainage but I do want some moisture, since it's pretty darn hot here. What do you guys think?

    I'm in Galveston just down the road from you. I use about 50/50 Miracle Gro potting soil and bark for cactus. You're right that we need that moisture. Just watch the transitions from cold/warm and vice versa. This mix breaks down about every 1-2 years and needs freshening.
