Last year, my garden attracted many bumblebees, honeybees and hover flies. This year, I haven't noticed as many. What has been very noticeable is this one busy little bee who's been guarding the lavender plant for the last few weeks. I'm assuming he's a male because he chases away, bonks, and even tackles other bees or wasps that come near. He sometimes hovers close to me. he hovers and buzzes around the lavender, sometimes around the perimeter, sometimes among the stems, and sometimes darts away from the plant then returns. I believe he is a wool carder bee, which is not native to where I live (Vancouver, Canada).

I find him quite amusing but I am worried that he's preventing a lot of good pollination activity. He himself spends most of his time patrolling and doesn't do much pollinating. Should I be concerned?
