in my experience, people chose them because they are convenient and the detox is so gradual that few experience healing crises or side effects.

if a client expresses desire to do a purchased herbal detox i suggest eating lighter and drinking more water while doing the cleanse.

The concept of "detoxes", herbal or otherwise is fatally flawed (unless we're talking about evidence-based drug abuse detox programs).

The best thing we can do is to eat healthy, avoid ingesting unnecessary toxins (i.e. excessive alcohol) and be cautious about intake of drugs/herbs. The only benefit to herbal "detox" regimens is the money they make for those who promote them.

and i think sometimes the word "detox" can be misleading.

detoxing the gut is different then detoxing the body.

To me, many of our problems start in the gut. so removing bad stuff from our intestines is a good thing... BUT... that isnt detoxing the system.

that said, turmeric, aloe vera, and papaya (or pineapple) are foods i try to eat almost daily. they are very powerful and very safe to use.

papaya and pineapple can break down proteins most other foods can not.

almost all fruit will help remove toxins in the gut.

they sweep away real toxins from the gut. (so do things like charcoal and clay)

Niacin (vitamin B3) to me is the ultimate detox. it works by opening the capillaries, so that blood can flow to parts of the body that often dont get enough blood flow.

capillary beds surround our organs too, so niacin helps the whole body.

there are 2 types of toxins... fat soluble, and water soluble.

Eventually, normal daily activity will remove water toxins over time...

fat soluble toxins are stored in fat cells, and niacin helps remove (free) them into the blood.... They then need to be removed from the body via sweat glands, urine or feces... this is why when taking high dose niacin its good to also take charcoal or clay (also papaya, psyllium husk etc...)
