I love your room.

Start by removing ALL the stuff (except the weather vane and seating pieces and the entertainment center) and leave only the furniture, to get a feel if you really like what you have and what you want to keep and accent in the room......when you know what you want then you can move forward and work with what you want to keep.

You might want to rework your furniture plan, refine that and then add rug and go from there one wall at a time......paint last.

This is a great place to get great ideas and inspiration to work on your room.....which is so cool!

I love the weather vane also, but I wonder if there's a better place where it could be showcased more.

Do you need all the seating? If not, I'd send the big chair and ottoman to Craigslist. Lose the valances on the windows and about half the stuff on the walls. Get rid of the fabric in the china cabinet; it's just too much.

OMG! I got excited for a minute! No TV! You have done well disguising it! Is the weathervane flat enough to hang on a wall? I really love it think it would look better on a lower wall. Very nice house, by the way.

Well, we actually do use the furniture. I do hours and hours of paperwork at home for my job and that's why I bought the tilt-back chair. The ottoman was for the little dog, so she wouldn't have to move every time I get up (you can see her lying on the back of the couch). I agree that it's a lot of furniture for the narrow room. I probably should have stopped at one sofa, but it's too late for that now! Getting rid of the fabric in the china cabinet is a good idea - thanks!

The reason the room looks cluttered is because it IS cluttered. There is no wall space or horizontal surface that isn't overloaded with stuff. One doesn't know where to look. I started clearing the space out, but got tired. But you can start to see how it opens up the space.

Rule of thumb: if something isn't beautiful or interesting or purposeful--if there are 100 more of them on the shelf at Hobby Lobby--then it doesn't belong in your home.

Perhaps you could get a light in the ceiling to illuminate the weather vane?

I am wondering if the tv unit would be nicer on the long wall on the left; the cable company can rewire for minimal fee. Then put one sofa on the wall where the entertainment center was. This will give your sofas an L shape in the room and provide comfy seating the TV watchin.

The other recliner and ottoman can then go in the corner to the left between the entertainment center and the sofa that was moved to the back wall....that way you will have a more opened space to enter into the seating area. Then new art can go over the sofa and the entertainment center will not be the overpowering unit in the room....also if you painted the wall a more neutral color that would soften the wood the room might feel bigger and the red sofas would look softer.

Rustic trim, neutral painted beige/ivory painted wall, red L shape sofas, TV unit on long side wall, voila, just like your room.

I agree with others that it looks comfy, but is simply holding too much stuff. Are the items surrounding the mirror family photos and achievement certificates? Behind the sofa is a poor spot to display them... the only way someone can see the detail in them is to put their knees in your sofa. I'd move those items to another area, making a small gallery wall of them.

Does every lamp actually get used? Remove those that don't get turned on.

The end table near the front door that the lamp is sitting on -- I would replace it with a table through which you can see the floor. Just legs, a tabletop, and perhaps one shelf below. This would help make the space lighter. Good luck!
