Backsplash decision

We just remodeled our kitchen
We have white shaker style cabinets and granite tops. The granite is called Perigaminho and is a busy pattern with blacks grays off whites a little tan and even a bit of sparkle. We have looked and brought home samples of different colors and styles. We know we want something rather plain since the countertop is a busy pattern. Since the granite is shiny should we also go with a shiny backsplash? We can't decide color either. How do we choose?

I don't think you could go wrong with a white/gray herringbone or simple white subway tile, I agree that you need a simplistic look with your beautiful but busy counter top!

We are going to be putting top trim on the top of the cabinets. But since we couldn't have cabinets all the way to the top of the ceiling do you have suggestions what to put on top of cabinets? Or maybe close in the top.

Nothing! I personally think it looks cleaner and more modern without anything, especially fake greenery. Could add rope lighting for some ambiance.

Because that granite is so busy, I would do a white subway tile. I wouldn't put anything on top of the cabinets, but i would decorate the counter tops. Those red jars match nothing, so I would remove those and replace with colors that match in that kitchen. Put the blender in a cabinet.

White herringbone or hex with darker grout that incorporates the tones in your granite would be perfect. I always prefer shiny splashes. Unless it's a super modern, unique situation.

White subway tile all the way

I'm not suggesting this color but why not get away from overdone and expected subway and do an elongated hexagon?

i believe the granite is commonly known as bianco antico, or Alaska white. Here are some backsplashes to give you an idea of what's what

white subway is blah. I actually like these larger arabesque tiles. they come in plenty of colors.

as for the space above, you could add boxes w/glass doors, or closed doors, or open boxes, or completely fill in the space.

below: they added the glass boxes and lit them from inside. frosted glass. crown trim

if you go to "Sawdust Girl" (http://sawdustgirl.com) she tells you how to do everything! Tiling, building, trim, windows, doors,,,you name it. she's amazeballs.

Or, just hire a good handyman or carpenter!

Is that a computer image with cabinets and handles like mine in the one picture?

claudia, I just googled the bianco antico granite to get pics of backsplashes. Tried to pick the pics w/the white cabs so you could see what different tiles would look like. hope it helps to give you an idea!

It definitely does help! Thank you again! I would so love to have those boxed in tops and I'm thinking either white subway tile or white brick backsplash! Thank you Beth!

try and find the pic of the backsplash w/the random linear brick. it was all white. like a white marble. looked nice w/the granite.

or even the split- faced quartz bricks. you might like that too. I honestly think a plain, 3x6 white subway will not do you any favors. IMO.

Yes after looking at all.the pics again I think you're right. The white subway tile is not what I meant I love some of those examples you showed me!

Finishing my kitchen update now. It's very similar to yours. I put trim on the soffit to make it look a little nicer. Painted the cabinets and soffit and trim all one color. I found this 4x8 slightly off-white subway at TheTileShop. I was tempted by the arabesque but I wonder if that will be out of style quickly. I'm using a single row of glass strip mosaic to bring in just a bit of color and interest without detracting from the granite. I'll be anxious to see what you do with yours! Good luck!
