Your whole yard is inviting.... even to the birds! : ) Where do you garden? I'm curious if you're growing wisteria in a pot, and if so, what variety. I have a root to dig up, but hadn't considered that option. Thank you.

Beautiful. Do you know what varieties you posted, especially the pale pink one? It reminds me of Quietness.

Kings-Rose, absolutely stunning!! But dang it, now I want Mordens rose . Just when I thought I had my order all figured out, then you come along with your crazy beautiful Mordens rose and I am back to the drawing board.

I always love mass plantings of the same rose. I always think it looks do impressive.

    Great looking yard

    Kings_ rose

which is better Champlain or Canadian Shield and is it worth having both?

A brief comparison will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Canadian Shield is overall better foliage is dark glossy green blooms have better forum and the red is velvet red you cant see in the pictures only problem is the stems are long and skinny not able to hold up when the plant is in bloom you will need a trellis or fence for support Champlin has strong stems able to hold its own when the plant is in bloom

Great write up. How does the rebloom compare?

    Canadian shield

blooming cycles are the same on both plants first full bloom late spring early summer and flushes of new growth and blooms until late fall or frost

This is very helpful. I have spot for three more roses and did not know which will be better. I am from Saskatoon and the summer is very short here. I planted Canadian shields last year and did well but the season was too short to evaluate and I read about Champlain being everblooming so thought I will give it a try. With this information I might actually try campfire rose instead and take more care for my canadian shields. I agree Canadian shields needs staking

the above comment was mine, I am not sure why it appears with a different name

what type of soil do you have? did you amended it before plating? Campfire rose blooms change color like a chameleon red, yellow , pink, white winter hardy robust plant

    last modified: 5 years ago

I did not test the soil. I amended with very good compost . All what planted last year ( my 1st planting year ( First time to own a house)) thrived before winter came, and I planted many shrubs. I need to measure the success in the spring.
