Spring grafting done.

Got my grafting done for the season, don't need any more tree's probably to be given away which i .usely do. I only do it if i have extra rootstock. Still have fd available.

My grafting arsenal that i have used since the late seventies are still in good working condition.

Tina grafting knives were only $25.00 then.

If you want a lot of tree's, like starting a small orchard, you can use a bud graft, you just cut the eyes out just, make sure the bud showing a bit of growth. If you only need a couple i like bark grafting. Here in the picture i have 8 started, all bark grafted.

Once the graft takes i'll feed them Dynamite Mater Magic it feeds for 3 months.

the way i take care of them maybe 2 months,then they go on their regular feeding like the others.

You've got a lot of knives/blades there. Do the X-acto knives work OK for grafting?

Only for soft wood, there are 2 models, the ones you see are a more heavier duty ones.

A friend of mine who is a big time grafter for a nursery regularly uses X-acto knives to do all of his grafting, but uses the X-acto blades that are sharpened only from one side of the blade. I think they are special blades used by carpet layers.

You really don't have to have that many knives but if have grafted since the early 80's you bound to have a few extra's. It is easy to get carry-away with making more tree's than you need. If you don't have room for them or time, Stop......

A forum friend gave me 2 pieces of budwood, i only ask for Santa Teresa and got a second one,a Valentine pomelo. Pieces were long about 8 ", now i got 4 tree's going.

Impressive! I just use razor blades for my grafting. Not ideal, but it gets the job done! I've been thinking about getting a grafting tool, but I'm pretty much at capacity for trees and don't see the value in getting one now, haha.

What's your grafting technique of choice for citrus?
