Oh I should have said pruning then? It sure will need to get chopped off some to bring it in form. Right now if I would let it grow, it will not get a nice tree form

I would say it looks like it is overdo to be watered. This is typical, Cost Co has no watering setup in place. And often displays dried out plants as a result.

Oh, this plant was shipped and some time in transit. Just re-potted, watered and in the shade for next couple of days. Just hope that shipping was not too stressfull and leaves will stay on.

that was not my find but somebody else posted here. I just took the chance and it was fine. Will definately look next year too and hope they will offer a kumquat.

I wish our Costco sold those! That actually looks better than some of the trees I have seen at the local nurseries around here.

I would leave it they are floppy by nature and slow growing, yours is very upright. Unclear its on dragon rootstock.

Franz labels their Flying Dragon rootstock trees as dwarf. I'd suggest digging just a bit for a secondary tag. Some, but not all, of their trees still have the propagator's tag on it... It should have the following code for Frost Owari Satsuma on Flying Dragon: "FOWFDG"

Looks good Susanne, I am thinking of getting one from them and putting it in the ground here. Seeing yours encourages me even more to do so since its a good sized tree. I don't understand why I can buy lemons, limes, and oranges locally but not satsumas or mandarins that would actually have a chance here. Oh well, Costco it is.

Molewacker yes thats it. So, what does this mean for my tree? And yes the twigs are very floppy, just not good to see in this picture.

I would love to hear of success for Satsumas in the Portland area! I would suggest getting the earliest maturing Satsuma you can. Franz has had Okitsu Wase Satsumas... and I have them mature about 3 weeks earlier than my Owari's.

Susanne - it just means that you know exactly what you have. FDG is a highly dwarfing rootstock so it will grow slowly. As far as performance in a pot, in your area... I digress to the experts and magicians on this forum who have success with citrus! - George

Maybe send them an email with a request for the OkitsuW. You never know. In the stores/warehouses this past season, the availability of the OkitsuW was not as frequent as the Owari. I also do not recall seeing dwarf satsumas (at all). you may have to take whatever they might have left in their stock. SemiD will likely be on C35 and Standard likely on Carrizo (but could also be Volk). They all grow slowly - its a trait of the Satsuma.

I have to take my trees in for the winter and why I choose the dwarf variety. What would I do with the C35 (thought that was dwarf? ) or the Carrizo?

C35 is not dwarf. A few things I have learned from my experience here in my areas (they may not apply to you/ your climate):

Dwarfs (on FDG) in a pot are agonizingly slow growing (except for limes and lemons).

All rootstocks produce a rather small shrub when in a pot.

Satsumas grow slowly.

I don't envision the difference between SD and Std. rootstocks will be much for a Satsuma... and in a pot, they will be small.

And since I have only kept Satsumas in a pot for about 2 years before getting them into the ground, I am going to defer further comment to the potted citrus experts here on the forum! - George

I've never actually contacted costco; would be nice to imagine they might be able to special order citrus not listed.

I've asked them for their code list in the past without success.. I was trying to find out all the varieties they offer.
