Why are you concerned about the one on the left.? Nothing looks abnormal from the pic.

Sorry, new to this.

The one on the left looks more yellow and the leaves are folded together unlike the one on the right where the leaves are flat and darker green.

I'm in Dallas and it's pretty hot. 98. Area has clay but I dug the hole and filled it with shale and new dirt first.

It probably is just too hot for it. Probably, the heat will be getting to your Caladium as well (those actually do well in full shade to part sun). But getting back to the banana, they do fold their leaves in response to high heat and water stress. As I am sure you know, bananas are heavy feeders and heavy water users, but also appreciate a bit of protection from the strongest sun (and your sun is stronger than South Florida's at this time of year!) You say the temperature is 98 F, but if you put a thermometer out there, I bet you would be surprised to see your actual backyard temperature, where you have the heat reflected off the fencing and any blacktop, etc... What are your watering practices? When you insert your finger into the soil beneath the surface, is it moist beneath the surface. I know you said that you have clay; bananas prefer richer soils that have a lot of organic matter in them, maybe if you introduce some peat humus. I am sure you will get people to hasten you to FEED IT, but fertilizing is not magic, and if there are heat and water issues, those are more important at this point. And just out of curiosity, do you know your variety of bananas?

P.S., Your posting has inspired me to work in my tiny bit of banana paradise.

They seem to be doing good, if your still concerned about heat just mist the leaves off with your hose. P.S. I trim my Musa Basjoo's leaves and it grows faster than without. It takes nutrients that the plant needs to grow it you have leaves all around the bottom of the plant. Just try to leave around 2-4 leaves on the plant at a time. No more or no less, to little doesn't give it the sun it needs.
