Hard to say. But I would not have trimmed roots. They are what supplies moisture to the growing plant. It's probably in shock from the rough transplant. I would keep it in part shade until it recovers.

I agree warm location with limited amounts of sun/morning sun/afternoon shade will be the best advice. Its also too dry. water lightly along the edges of the container to get some moisture in the mix.

For future reference in July... in Houston...unless you forget to put drain holes in your pot (been there) rainwater will not cause a problem for you. Because of the high temperatures. A couple of the lowest leaves may have turned yellow but that may or may not have been related to being too wet. It also happens when they are too dry or when you spray insect control or for no apparent reason at all.
