Basic fig growing questons?

Have a fig tree in a large container, comes in for the winter, on deck in the summer. Three years old, last year got 3-4 figs. This year it has about 25, they developed to the size of a large marble and have just sat there for about the last 2-3 weeks. Not getting bigger, not ripening, just "hanging out." Temp has been in the 90's for the last week or so. Researched soil amendments a little and it seems that has to be ddone before it sets fruit. Also confused about watering, seem to recall, in the mediteranean or wherever, they get a lot of water during one part of the year and then don't. So, fertilize or don't? Water lightly, heavily, or don't? Is it normal for figs to develop so far and then pause for awhile. Oh, i'ts about 30" tall above the soil.

Thanks for your time,
