Small bathroom reno
I have a very small and awkward bathroom that I am retiling. I am keeping the white subway tiles that go halfway up the walls as those are still in good condition. However, I am replacing the floor.
What I'm wondering is if I should add a border all around? I'm leaning towards a 3" hexagon marble or maybe a marble basketweave, and my designer is suggesting that I add a border. I'm concerned that the narrow alleyway leading to the toilet will look a little crowded. It's only 30" wide and I'm worried that using some of that in border might look odd. I'm looking at some mosaic borders as well as plain subway tile.
Thoughts?

9 years agoagree..too small a space for a border.
use the basketweave tile. I used it in black for my water closet area. no border, but I did use the same black marble in the baseboard. You might think about doing that w/yours.
Have you checked BuildersDepot? they have quite a few of the basketweave patterns in different color marble, along w/the different dots. They also have pretty good prices. and they have the baseboard molding to go w/it.

I noticed you got the Bardiglio gray dots. love that one as well. Don't do the wide basketweave (your first pic), do the regular one like this:
honed carrara bianco / bardiglio dots.
(I was looking at the matching border. if you were to do something like this one around the entire perimeter, it might look nice. this matches the one above. )
also, you might want to get it honed since it will be on the floor. With the polished marble, etching is always going to be an issue (especially around the toilet) and will be more visible on polished stone. just something to keep in mind.
