If it is as hot and dry there as it is here they are thirsty.

Anything going on underneath? Digging, building, etc?

That first one looks pretty near a fence- how do you get along with your neighbors regarding the roots, limbs, and leaves?

It's been hot but not too bad. 80s most days, 70s others, a few 90s. A rain storm at least once a week. All the other large trees we have (oak, elm) are just fine. It's just the maples.

No digging or building in our yard. One of the trees borders on a neighbor's yard but nothing going on there either. The top half of the tree looks fine, it's just the bottom that looks like that.

The one near the fence borders is along the street. It is our fence to block out the traffic. The tree is on the outside of the fence, along a 10 ft or so wide embankment above a retaining wall above the sidewalk/road. I hope that makes sense. I assume the tree has probably outgrown that spot; as I mentioned it's been there for 30+ years.

Where almost all of my maples are exhibiting the same symptoms, I thought it was probably a disease or something. I have a sugar maple in the middle of the yard and all of the leaves have black/brown spots. They just aren't so bad yet that they're crisping up and falling off. I could try and take some pictures later if that would help.

If you can take a close up of the leaves, both any still on the tree and a fresh one that has fallen, that would help. Make sure they are showing whatever spotting symptoms you are seeing.

Do you use any chemicals in your yard? Weed and feed, etc.?

GG I will try and take some pictures tomorrow. The only chemical I used lately was spectracide for the lawn but that was nowhere near these trees and no way they could have gotten any of the spray. Other than that nothing except milorganite around Memorial day.

We'll it's set to rain for a while now so no pics yet... will take some when it clears up.
