OMG. You are on your own with this one.

I'm chuckling, there are things you can do besides paint. Look at what Ralph Lauren and others do with rooms like this. What you can't paint, you should cover with fabric, blankets or other items.

Also that poor lamp shade is way too low, change out the harp.

    Here you go

    How about removing the paneling?

You can buy huge pieces of drop cloth at home depot and tack on the paneling. Just the one wall should do it.

Does the entire room have this paneling - or just this wall?

How about a pretty light throw to put over the back of your pretty brown sofa? Yes, a taller lamp also. Not sure I would paint the picture frame...Have to think on that.

The one wall is rough sawn cedar, not paneling. Can't take down or paint! I would love to! This wall has been a thorn in my side for over 20 years!

Is there space to pull the sofa forward and put a sofa table behind it. You can then add more stuff on the sofa table(lamps, etc...), to help disguise the wall.

The other walls are painted almond color.

Ivory throw, pillows that pick up the floor color-a large simple canvas artwork-a lot of ivory like your other walls. That big sofa makes the wood wall look even darker.

I'd also try to get rid of as much "wood color "as I could. Maybe end table & the coffee table could be painted? Are your floors grey? And almond wall in the rest of the room? A lot of competing colors with grey toned floor, almond walls, varied browns in the wood wall & your sofa. Good luck!

Can we see the rest of the room? That might be helpful. Thanks!

Ralph does make wood into a lovely setting. You do need a rug and turn coffee table the other way round. I actually think the cedar might look better without the 3 pics. Could we try it. and take another pic.

20 years and he still won't 'let' you paint???? tell him he's on his own and take a vacay somewhere. sheesh. lol

what about if you got new, lighter furniture? can we see the entire room?

Are you willing to purchase a few new items? The dark wall hangings of wood and metal make things feel dark and heavy in the room. I would try updated, lighter art, a glass, possibly colored glass, taller lamp, remove the tray from the table, and can the table be painted? I would try a fuzzy ivory colored pillow along with others. Those as is seem out of place on that dark leather furniture.

The couch is making the wall a centerpiece, can your furniture be rearranged?. Agree with the suggestion of trying nothing on the wall, art doesn't cover it up, it draws the eye to it.

Yes, show us the rest of the room.
