Trumpet vines don't grow from tubers so not sure what exactly you might have planted. Ideally, they would have been rooted starts, possibly from the root shoots these vines produce in abundance. Any chance of a photo?

I'm thinking you meant suckers from a friends vine and that sounds like an amazing idea! Hopefully you have already done it, I hope so and if you did I would love to see pictures!

Do a search for trumpet vine on this forum . . . they most likely won't stay where you put them but send up suckers in other areas. Before you plant, consider carefully if you want to fight an extremely vigorous plant.

On the other hand, you might want to post some photos to be sure that what you are calling trumpet vine is what is most commonly called trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) though I know of at least two other types of plants that aren't nearly as vigorous that have been referred to as trumpet vine, one a tropical, and one trumpet honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) which is large, but IME doesn't sucker and spread.
