I really don't treat my plants differently depending on the season ...

Me neither. Unless the plant is in some stage of shock for whatever reason, I do it as soon as possible on my plants. It is rare to buy a AV these days that doesn't have two or three crowns or two or three separate plants in the same pot. Some sellers talk this point up as a selling point, getting two or three plants for the price of one.

Sometimes in the past, I have been unsuccessful in getting the crowns separated with separate root balls intact. No big deal. Stick em in dirt and they'll grow. If the smaller crown just doesent look like it would make it, propagate the leaves.

Aegis, Jeff, I will leave the plant for now. It took it a long time to flower again after I re-potted it. I guess I can enjoy the flowering for now.

Winter is sometimes tough here. The last two to three winters were mild, although there was significant snow last winter. My boss wondered why I was wearing winter boots to work.

Yes, I was born in raised in Northern Minnesota so I know all about cold winters! Thats why I now live in Florida!

Like Jeff, I grew up in Minnesota. . . only the central part. Any plants we kept on the the windowsills could be frozen to the glass on cold mornings! I made it as far south as Indiana where winter cold doesn't last as long and so far, no frozen window plants.

My plants aren't that close to my windows ... maybe a foot or so away.

When it gets really cold, ... I keep the blinds closed ...

Hi all, we replaced the windows in the front of the house, but the rest are original to the house built about 1958. They at least are double paned. We are cold in the winter, but have far less snow than Buffalo. It is all about how the window blows over Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. My violets grow on the window sills, not under lights. So when there is less light in the winter, the violets react with less blossoms.
