Is bluestone a good option for a grill island countertop?

We are working with a stone installer who priced out our grill island with a bluestone countertop. When we talked to the stone yard dealer he warned us that bluestone is porous. So we started looking at other options but the price is substiantially higher (went up from a few hundred to a few thousand $). We love the soapstone for its durability, feel, and look. But I'm really wondering if we should just save money and go with bluestone. Anyone has a bluestone countertop they are happy or unhappy with?
