That's cinnamon on top from the initial cuts.

Would it be too much stress to cut again if these fail? It hasn't had water in a couple of weeks.

It still feels hard. Is that a good sign?

Difficult to say, but after 10-11 days the plastic should be carefully removed. Usually the scion will shrink back from the union and a space will show between scion and root stalk. The shriveling is not a good sign.

K, I removed the plastic. There are 3 grafts. One looks like it took! No growth but very nice looking. The other two are iffy. The one in pic is not squishy. I'll keep an eye on them.

I generally like to go really slow to remove the plastic. Rather than yanking it off, open it up and let some air in but not remove it for another day or two to give the graft time to adjust to the drop in humidity. I've lost several grafts that I removed the plastic from too early or too rapidly at once, even though they were 3 or more weeks along and looked like they had taken well. So keep an eye on yours.

Removing the plastic should be done carefully, which is probably what you have done. The plastic can cause issues if left on too long, so getting it off after 3 weeks is good. If you have high humidity outside, this would just exemplify issues inside the bag of plastic.

They should not be in full sun. Should be kept in filtered sunlight to shade w the heat still until you have new growth coming from the scion.

Sometimes the scion just do not take for what ever reasons and I will not go into that. Redo if you have more scion material available.

He definitely is! Update: two of the scions were bad. I removed them. But one is looking fantastic! Keeping my fingers crossed and will try grafting the failed branch again in a week or so.
