I'm one of the lesser experienced Adenium fanciers. I'm really surprised that no one else has responded. Maybe they are busy with their own plants or on vacation, so BUMP!

My apologies but I am in the midst of moving and trying to do repairs on our home to list it for sale. A bit over whelmed with busy right now and just relocated my horses this past weekend to other pasture as well. Whew!

Anyway, if none of the root area is soft, I'd leave it. It already looks dried and scabbed over to me. Do remove anything that is active rot but otherwise I'd spray it well with sulfur spray, and plant it up. Anything new you do decide to cut should be sealed with glue to prevent further die back and withering that can lead to fresh rot.

Otherwise I don't think it looks bad and if your temps are sunny and hot, it will likely take off nicely on you. But keep the watering fairly light until you see buds breaking. That would be my personal advice though others who have been growing them a lot longer than I have may have something else to suggest. Good luck with it!

That looks like a beautiful plant. My recommendation is you scrape the surface skin on the darkened area in one or two of the blackest places, just to see if it's dark underneath. If you find healthy tissue, do nothing further. Let it sit in fresh air a couple of days to callous over where you just lightly scraped. Follow Hyn's advice, apply sulfur, and pot up. I would leave half the caudex above ground.

You're in mid winter now, right? Are you going to place this one under lamps?

Thanks that you took the time to respond.

As I have the plant a bit now, I already repotted it without doing something special. I only cut away some blackened, weak roots and applied cinnamon on the spots.

So fare, it is doing fine and tries to push out new leaves (at least it looks like it) so I guess it is all ok. Regarding the amount of water, I just watered twice so fare (very light) and the caudex feels firm so I wait till the new leaves/buds appear.

No Maria Elena we are in the middle of summer right now. Unfortunately, the weather feels more like autumn as it is so cold and rainy. But im hoping for some nice, hot sunny days to come as the weather will change in September to colder temps again :-(

Its crazy how my plants grow fast if we have just three days in a row of hot, sunny weather. I was away for 2 weeks and could not believe how big my seedlings grew in that short time. Under the light it takes sooooooooo long to see the progress.

Wow ... I read you were having cold clammy weather and thought you were in the midst of winter. Of course it's still summer there! I think your plant are acclimated to your climate and when a sunny day approaches they all say, "C'mon guys, we'd better soak it all in before it gets cool again!" ... and they grow in spurts! Ha!!

I hope you get some beautiful flowers out of this one.

It looks like it is blooming true to me. You have to remember that there will be fairly broad variation in the actual flower color, especially with dark or purple adenium more than all others, due to temperatures, PH, and fertilizers you use. So taking that into consideration, that bloom looks pretty spot on to me to the photo above it within reasonable variation. Everyone's cultivation varies slightly so our blooms will tend to vary slightly, even with the same cultivars.

Give it a year or two of blooming and see how it goes for you. If you end up not liking it, you can always trade it for something else with another collector in your region.

Francesco, this is a most beautiful flower, stunning....I would love to have this in my collection. Congrats, and happy growing :)

I really like it too! That white border around the edges really sets it off! I might be tempted to order one but I had a bad experience with Adenium Center so I would be inclined to order King Adenium's version. Looks the same by another name if I recall. Very pretty!
