Well, for starters you need to pick a theme. I can't tell what you're doing in that room, is it some kind of south western with the baskets and the cactus (?) You need new chairs or you need to reupholster the red ones. You need an area rug. You need a chandelier. You need something decorative on the table, not a plant. I would remove the items you have on the floor. I would upgrade the artwork and I would rethink that stark white paint.

I prefer the red chairs too. Think about adding a narrow, dark grey, black or smokey dark blue console/buffet under your picture. It needs to be something wider than your table is deep (60"+?). In any event, remove the bitty plant and twigs.

Take away all baskets. Love the red chairs and floors. If you want a rug add one that the chairs can sit on. Beautiful! Less is more.

I agree with those saying to remove the items from the corners on the floor. The art I'm not sure as I can't see the adjacent room. I don't mind the red chairs at all in the room, I just don't like them with the table and I do love the table.

Since they are Parsons chairs...not sure if new or older chairs? Can you do a true slipcover on them vs. the ones you made which was a great attempt, better than I would do.

I'm seeing a bit of tribal mixed with a rustic table and a piece of abstract art. Is the room open to another adjoining room? If so, is it modern with abstract art or other? That would help.

something more as such if you are not going to replace the chairs. Easy to decorate around and they look nice with the table.

This type of slipcover paired with the table you could do anything. Just not sure from looking at this single room what you lean toward. Please feel free to chime in!

I see something more like this in the corner vs. something on both sides. Pot or basket??? Not sure as I viewed your idea book and am stumped on your decor :)

I think it depends on what kind of look you're going for. The leather chairs and art are contemporary. With the slipcovers, much more traditional. Agree with others - remove things from the floor. If you want plants - use tall plant stands. You could really use a rug in there and window treatments. The room just looks too sterile. If you keep the slips, the art needs to be changed (IMHO). Is it possible to have the two outlets lowered?

Ok guys, really appreciate the feedback. I guess I should listen to my husband. Damn it. He prefers the more contemporary feel and I keep trying to force a more traditional look. Here are the pics of the other end of the room. The cart has been painted white now. I can always change it to something else or eliminate it completely. As you can see, we were going for a contemporary look with the kitchen (although I think it can be whatever it's decorated as). We went with the straight stack on the backsplash because we wanted the clean lines of that look.
I will definitely remove the stuff off of the floor and remove the country looking slipcovers. I've felt like the room was pretty schizo too. Any rug suggestions that would look good with the artwork and red chairs? Little dog is my grand doggie!!!

From the looks of it this area is part of your kitchen since I can see another dining room in other picture. So pull it away from the wall more and put a buffet at the end.
I like red chairs better. Maybe later on you can change them.

I don't see it as, "modern" per se so you can meet in the middle (I hope) on the decor.

It's simplistic and has fairly clean lines. The chairs at the counter are transitional and the clock and white storage bench lean very slightly country or farm like (lack of a better word) to me. I think if you can meet with transitional it might work out well... not modern... I don't see it going modern with the cabinets in the kitchen and peeking way back in to your dining area not modern...

Is there room for a buffet in that eating area? Maybe you are speaking of the formal dining area at the opposite side of the kitchen?

Respect Jan's thoughts... I'm thinking to keep kitchen eating area more minimalistic if you want to eliminate the chairs and don't want to do the full on parsons slipcovers you could easily pair the table with

at the kitchen table and at the counter

We do have a formal dining room, which has since been painted white and looks so much better. It was Spun Sugar and very drab before.

I won't be adding a buffet because we don't even use this area. I'm thinking an area rug would look good.

The chairs are not leather, they are upholstery. I don't have a cactus, that's a Snake plant. One of the few I can't kill! Lol!

I do like those chairs! A lot and they were contenders. My bar stools currently are just temporary. I don't like them at all. I do feel like I've made a lot of mistakes, with the white cart and side board. Way too country.

Surefit makes stretch slipcovers that fit right to the shape of the chair and have a more contemporary look if you don't want to go with the red. There are all kinds of colors available.

Ok, just messing around. I added one twice I think. The crap on the center of the table isn't going to stay. Just playing around with something other than a plant.

I like the red chairs better than the white covers at the kitchen table. Remove the stuff from the floor that the others said to do and try putting the white cart under the picture and see how the kitchen table area looks then. Do your really want to put a rug under a kitchen table? I know I wouldn't want the constant cleaning.

Sorry to hear that. Honestly, I think the red is fine. An area rug that pulls in all of the colors will help blend everything together.

I think you just need a rug and maybe a floor lamp in the right hand corner, take out fake plants. It's fine you are overthinking it. Houses don't have to look like each other, this is your look.

You can easily return them if they are available in your local or near to store and even if you get them on line you can return to store.

I do agree with an area rug, but given the width of the room, pushing back from a chair and all.... The appropriate size would be as such that it's going to almost completely cover the wood left to right.... That part I don't like :(

My two cents!! Orange Eames style chairs (these were padded), another piece of art and a tree as suggested above. I don't know contemporary from modern and I love to mix. I looked at your idea books and there was lots of color and fun and very little was traditional.
