Don't paint brick. It turns an almost zero maintenance surface into a higher maintenance one. The brick is the best looking part of the home. Paint those awful beige shutters a blue gray, the trim bright white, and then do a brighter red door than you currently have. But leave the brick alone.

And I agree -- no to painting the brick.

IF the brick was spalting or cracking up and not good quality, I'd say go ahead and paint it. But that's pretty nice-looking brick so it would be a shame to cover it up. You need a contrast to the brick color, so something darker and richer on the shutters would work IMO.

Okay then...that will get everybody's thinking caps on! Is there more siding around the back? I see it up on the side of the second storey.
